Hetzner review
German infrastructure provider offering self-managed Cloud servers, dedicated root servers, managed servers, Web Hosting and European storage products.
Overview
Hetzner is assessed as a location-sensitive infrastructure provider. The Cloud, Dedicated Root Server, Managed Server, Web Hosting, Object Storage and Storage Box offerings remain distinct. Current pricing for new Cloud orders and rescales reflects Hetzner's 15 June 2026 adjustment; prices are official listed amounts excluding VAT unless stated otherwise.

Pricing
Starts at EUR 5.49/month. EU Cloud pricing excludes VAT and Primary IPv4. Hetzner bills Cloud resources in the account currency; SolutionRay keeps the researched market currency and does not convert it for USD budgets. Check the official pricing source. Verified: 2026-10-04.
Hosting products, locations and plan gating
Hetzner is not one location-neutral hosting product. Cloud is self-managed IaaS, with shared AMD (CX and CPX), Arm64 (CAX) and dedicated-vCPU (CCX) options. The available server families differ by location: Arm64 is documented in the EU locations, while AMD shared and dedicated Cloud are available in the EU, Ashburn, Hillsboro and Singapore.
- Cloud: hourly billing is capped monthly. Primary IPv4 is separately billed. Backups are optional, cost 20% of the server price and protect the server disk only - attached Volumes require their own backup strategy.
- Dedicated Root Servers: a separate bare-metal line with fixed current configurations, possible setup fees and separate IPv4. Server Auction inventory is variable and is not used as a stable Ask Ray price.
- Managed Server and Web Hosting: Managed Server is distinct from Cloud. Web Hosting S, M, L and XL include mailbox administration and daily backups retained for 14 days, but domains are separately booked. This is ordinary managed web hosting, not application-level Managed WordPress.
- Storage: Object Storage is S3-compatible and limited to Falkenstein, Nuremberg and Helsinki. Storage Box is a separate backup/storage product with standard transfer protocols, not Object Storage.

Privacy & GDPR
Privacy source: provider documentation. Verified: 2026-10-02. “Not verified” is not the same as “No.”
This privacy result is configuration-specific. Hetzner documents EU processing for Cloud customer master data and Cloud-server data when Falkenstein, Nuremberg or Helsinki is selected, and says non-Cloud product data is processed and stored exclusively within the EU. US and Singapore Cloud workload data is intentionally stored in the selected third-country location. Support access is generally provided by EU teams.
Privacy detail for Hosting
Hetzner documents a location-sensitive model. For Cloud in Falkenstein, Nuremberg or Helsinki, it states that customer master data and Cloud-server data are stored and processed in the EU. It separately states that non-Cloud product data is processed and stored exclusively within the EU, and that support access is generally provided by EU teams. This supports a qualifying EU configuration for the strict EU/EEA-only Ask Ray check.
That result does not apply to a Cloud workload intentionally placed in Ashburn, Hillsboro or Singapore: Hetzner states that the workload data and technically required traffic for such a selected third-country server are transferred there. Object Storage is currently limited to the three EU locations. Hetzner publishes a DPA, Technical and Organizational Measures and a subprocessor overview; visitors should still confirm the exact product and region at order time.

Pros
- Cloud offers root access, API automation, private Networks, firewalls, Load Balancers, Volumes and snapshots
- EU Cloud locations are documented in Falkenstein, Nuremberg and Helsinki; US and Singapore Cloud locations are separately selectable
- Current shared, Arm64 and dedicated-vCPU Cloud options serve different performance needs
- Web Hosting includes mailboxes and daily 14-day backups; Object Storage is S3-compatible in three EU locations
Things to consider
- Cloud and dedicated servers are self-managed infrastructure, not PaaS or application-level Managed WordPress
- Cloud backups are optional and do not include attached Volumes
- Primary IPv4 is separately billed, and dedicated servers may have setup fees
- Region and server-family availability vary; US and Singapore workloads do not meet an EU-only location requirement
