Privacy source: provider documentation. Verified: 2026-09-24. “Not verified” is not the same as “No.”

Shopify publishes GDPR guidance, a Data Processing Addendum and a named subprocessor list. It stores certain merchant and customer data at rest in Europe for new European merchants, but its documentation says international processing and transfers still occur, supported by SCCs and other safeguards. This is not EU/EEA-only processing.

Pros

  • Managed infrastructure and broad app ecosystem
  • Documented Markets and POS options

Things to consider

  • POS Pro and payment processing are separate commercial considerations
  • Advanced B2B and retail needs can require higher tiers
